Virginia hates it when people talk about her mom in the past tense. She’s “missing!” Lost in space on an exploratory mission, seeking viable planetary homes for human colonists. Homes where everyone has fresh air and free water. Confined to quarters for breaking multiple flight deck rules, Virginia and her younger cousin Gordy discover a hidden chest filled with her mother’s things. The star chart of her mom’s last known location is etched on the trunk. It’s the legendary planet Green Tara, a wildlife preserve, teeming with birdsong and abundant water. She finds a letter from her mother, telling her she’s inherited the family mission to restore viable habitats. Gordy is passionate about the legend. For seven generations their family has cultivated the preserve and planned how to regenerate flourishing homes for humankind. Virginia doesn't really believe the old, failed dream is possible. But, they have to at least try to find and rescue her mom.
